High Level Conference on Synthetic SAF

Live from the Fokker Terminal in The Hague

The High Level Conference on Synthetic Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) took place on 8 February 2021. Former minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, Cora van Nieuwenhuizen, hosted this international digital conference on the future of sustainable aviation fuels. The broadcast could be followed live from the Fokker Terminal in The Hague via a livestream connection. PINO took care of the invitation process, speaker guidance and directed the digital broadcast. Due to the extreme weather conditions, it was not responsible for the speakers to be physically present in the studio in The Hague. PINO once again excelled in this by effortlessly switching to a fully digital event in a very short space of time.

Dutch world premiere

Moderator Frouke Kramer welcomed, well-known (inter)national names to the digital stage, including Jean-Baptiste Djebbari, Minister of Transport in France, Adina Vălean, European Commissioner for Transport, Andreas Scheuer, Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure in Germany and from the Netherlands, Frans Timmermans, Vice-President of the European Commission (Green Deal). Their keynotes were followed by a panel discussion with international experts on various topics.

The aim of this online event is to accelerate the dialogue on synthetic SAF and create favourable conditions for the production and deployment of synthetic fuels. Minister Van Nieuwenhuizen announced the first step in this as Dutch world premiere during the broadcast. KLM flew between Amsterdam and Madrid with both regular kerosene in the tank as well as 500 litres of sustainable synthetic kerosene on board. This kerosene is made from CO2, renewable electricity and water. It is the first aircraft ever to fly this.
