Crossing borders at IENE 2018

International multi-day conference

In the iconic building, the Evoluon, in Eindhoven, over 350 professionals in the field of ecology and transport infrastructure gathered from 10 – 14 September for IENE 2018. For over a year, PINO worked intensively together with the Organising Committee to develop and prepare the event concept, programme, inivitation and communication to participants and the logistical and facilities organization. With more than 38 nationalities represented, the partners (Rijkswaterstaat, ProRail, Province of Noord-Holland, Province of Noord-Brabant and the Flemish government) look back on a particularly successful conference.

Crossing borders

Including the arrival day, IENE 2018 participants were offered a full and diverse 4-day program. With interesting keynotes from home and abroad and various parallel sessions consisting of long and short inspiring lightning talks, poster presentations and extensive workshops. One conference day consisted of participation in one of the 11 excursions in the Netherlands or Flanders. The conference theme ‘Crossing borders for a greener and sustainable transport infrastructure’ thus became visible in practice. It emphasizes that cooperation between governments, scientists and contractors is crucial when working on infra-nature and that it works in practice. Nature does not stop at national borders, disciplines or projects.

Communication and organization
In order to get communication going in the run-up to the conference, PINO used various means. In addition to keeping the conference website up-to-date, PINO also produced a monthly newsletter for the entire IENE network. The deployment of an advanced ‘Abstract Submission Tool’ was also part of PINO’s services. The use of the Networkapp before and during the conference was an important sustainable innovation within the IENE network. With over 250 active users this medium was a great success.
